Barnrättsspelet.se is based on the articles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and was developed with and for children aged 10-13.
"Our ambition with the game is for children to gain knowledge and understand what the articles mean in and for their own lives," says Ragna Wallmark, board member of My Human Rights and former head of SVT, UR and mother of the popular children's program Bullen. "Knowing your basic human rights gives you the feeling that you are worth taking seriously."
The game allows children to try out the articles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in a number of real-life situations. They encounter everything from inconsiderate teachers and politicians to ignorant parents and friends. There are groping relatives and bullying.
Developed and tested with children
"The game has been developed and tested with around fifty children and a number of teachers who provided useful feedback during the process. One insight from the tests is that children really think that rights are important and that the game gives them greater knowledge of what rights they actually have. The fact that they also think the game is fun is an added bonus", continues Ragna Wallmark.
The game is primarily intended for use in middle school education, by leisure and sports leaders, child rights strategists and all other adults who encounter children in their work. The game is web-based and optimized for computer screens/tablets. The game is accompanied by an ambitious guide with tips on working methods for adults who will use the game in their group of children.
Facts: Barnrättsspelet.se is based on the association's material "I am a child. I have rights". The game has been developed in collaboration with children, teachers, after-school educators and counselors in Malmö, Upplands Väsby, Vaxholm and Stockholm, as well as the project Grundskolefotboll mot rasism - Allas lika värde (Primary school football against racism - Everyone's equal value), with support from the Swedish National Heritage Fund. The rights cards included in the game have been developed by My Human Rights in collaboration with Save the Children.
